UltraFlux™ · Replacement and retrofit

Membrane replacement for tubular crossflow UF

We assess your existing plant, including installations with Berghof modules, to define membrane replacement or an UltraFlux™ retrofit. First, we identify the equipment and validate compatibility.

Your installation is the starting point.
  1. IdentifyInstalled module

    Nameplate, reference and connections.

  2. ValidateCompatibility

    Mechanical, hydraulic and chemical.

  3. PlanReplacement or retrofit

    Scope and plant shutdown.

A selection process. The drawing does not represent a module or dimensional equivalence.
Before deciding on replacement

Symptoms guide the review. Data supports the decision.

A production decline alone does not show that membranes need replacing. The first step is to distinguish reversible fouling, feedwater changes, integrity issues and system limitations.

Lower permeate flow

Compare production against historical data under equivalent conditions. Review feed, temperature, pressures and cleaning response before attributing the decline to membrane end of life.

Changes in permeate quality

Abnormal turbidity or solids carryover calls for finding the cause: membrane integrity, seals, connections or mixing between streams. Diagnosis should distinguish an affected module from the rest of the train.

More frequent cleaning

Review changes in the process and the recovery achieved after cleaning. Replacement should include a review of fouling causes and operating conditions.

When to consider replacing a tubular membrane
Three essential checks

Compatibility goes beyond dimensions.

Mechanical

Dimensions, ports and installation

Full reference, module length and diameter, port position and type, seals, supports and removal clearance. A similar housing does not establish equivalence.

Hydraulic

The loop operating point

Installed area, train configuration, recirculation and permeate flows, pressures, pressure loss, pump curve, and filtration and cleaning sequences.

Chemistry and separation

Feedwater and cleaning protocol

Material, separation cut-off, solids, pH, temperature and chemicals used. Operating and cleaning limits must match the selected reference.

Choosing the scope

Replace modules or retrofit the filtration system.

Assessment outputA documented reference and replacement scope. An integration proposal with defined modifications and operating conditions.

UltraFlux™ filters from outside to inside the membrane. Introducing it into an inside-out tubular plant may require system modifications. Direct replacement cannot be assumed from an equal outside diameter or a similar area.

Prepare your enquiry

The information we need about your plant.

Start with the nameplate and the problem you need to solve. With the available information we can identify what is missing to assess the scope.

  1. Installed equipmentNameplate and connection photos; manufacturer, full reference, module count and arrangement by train.
  2. Objective and symptomPlanned replacement, flow decline, permeate quality or retrofit assessment; preferred intervention date.
  3. Feedwater and operationApplication, available analysis, solids, pH, temperature, and usual flows and pressures.
  4. History and cleaningApproximate age, production trends, cleaning history, chemicals used and resulting recovery.
  5. IntegrationProcess sketch or P&ID, pump data, available space, and shutdown or access constraints.
From identification to proposal

An intervention with a defined scope.

  1. Initial identification

We review the installed module, process and need: planned maintenance, an operating issue or a retrofit.

  2. Scope validation

We check selection data and interfaces. If records, drawings or a plant check are needed, we define them before finalising the solution.

  3. Proposal and planning

We define the proposed supply, required modifications, commissioning and commercial terms. Availability and lead time are confirmed for each proposal.

Answers for your installation

UF membrane replacement questions.

Can I enquire about replacement if my plant has Berghof membranes?

Yes. Send the full reference and photos of the nameplate and connections. Neptuno will review the installed equipment and feasible scope. An enquiry does not establish that any UltraFlux™ module is interchangeable with the existing module.

Does UltraFlux™ directly replace a tubular membrane?

Introducing UltraFlux™ is assessed as a retrofit. Its outside-in configuration may require changes to manifolds, skid, pumping, backwashing and controls. Engineering review determines the modifications.

Does a flow decline mean the membranes need replacing?

Not necessarily. Feedwater and operating conditions, historical data and recovery after cleaning permitted for the module are reviewed. The decision follows diagnosis and the required production and quality.

Are diameter and length enough?

They are useful but insufficient. Reference, connections, material, separation cut-off, active area, hydraulic conditions and cleaning compatibility are also needed. Two similarly sized modules may require different conditions.

How much does crossflow UF membrane replacement cost?

The quotation depends on module, quantity, supply and intervention scope. A retrofit includes the applicable modifications. Send your plant data for an assessment with a defined scope.

Can I retain the current skid and pumps?

This is checked case by case: mechanical condition, space, connections, pump curves, pressures, recirculation flow and control sequences. The proposal identifies equipment that can be retained and equipment requiring modification.

Documentation for checking selection

Berghof · Tubular module manual, October 2022 revision: sections 4.3 and 5 for limits, monitoring and diagnosis.

Berghof · Industrial module families: manufacturer configurations to check against the installed reference.

Berghof is mentioned to identify existing equipment. This page does not imply affiliation or official distribution of that brand. Selection is confirmed against the specific datasheet and plant documentation.
